The 2009 Riverfest will be held May 9. Says Dan
This years Riverfest will be held on Saturday May 12, 2007. It is sponsored by the Lackawanna River Corridor Association and will have an 8 and 11 miled timed race, a river regatta (dressed up craft to win a prize) and Duck a Thon (sponsor a duck, winner will get some sort of cash award). Most participants do not take it very seriously so it is a fun
event. Says Dan
There is a nice stretch of pretty easy whitewater from Archbald to Blakely. It is class I and II with a nice flow. Rapids tend to be cobbles and there are a few nice ledges. Put in is at the softball/soccer field in Archbald. Take out is at the park in
Blakely. Great pubs nearby for apre river. Great wings and local food. There is a 11 mile race from Archbald to Scranton every may. Lots of fun with a festival at the end. This years Lacakanna River Fest is the weekend of May 6, 2006. SYOTR Says Dan
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Pennsylvania tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The wonderful Pennsylvania scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in
location is a short drive from Scranton—Wilkes-Barre, as you can see on the road map further down. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough for an overnight
trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The Carbondale to Susquehanna River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The Carbondale to Susquehanna River section of Lackawanna River in Pennsylvania is 26.8 miles long and is a class
I-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at
a nearby campground.

The upper section (Stillwater Dam to Simpson) has terrific whitewater, pretty much non stop. Mainly class 1 - 2 with the exception of a 5 foot ledge split by a rock ''islet''. Take a straight pourover on the right or a twisting spiraling flume on the left. Either way scout for wood beforehand. (I chose left...it was a nice day for a swim)
