The Above Delaware confluence stretch of Lackawaxen River in Pennsylvania is 5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Pennsylvania tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Lackawaxen River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches,
the Above Delaware confluence stretch is the only one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The put-in location is a short drive from East Stroudsburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's
a road map further down the page. The wonderful Pennsylvania scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip.
Briefly about the general area: During the warm days of summer highs here at Lackawaxen River reach the 70's with nighttime lows in the 50's. During the winter highs are generally in the 30's while Lackawaxen River night low temperatures through the winter
are in the 10's. Lackawaxen River is a good place of common rain; the wettest month of the year is mostly May, that's the one that rains the most, and February is the month with the least moisture. Going for a hike along the Steam Mill Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Crawford Trail.
