The wonderful Carbon County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Lehigh River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Francis Walters Dam to White Haven section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better     reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. Briefly about the general area: Lehigh River gets lots of water; August is when you get the most rain here; February is when it's the driest. High temperatures at Lehigh River during the warmest time of the year are in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. For the duration of the winter the highs are typically in the 20's with temperatures at Lehigh River dipping down into the 10's all through winter nights.
