If you're coming from Scranton—Wilkes-Barre it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The White Haven to Rockport stretch of Lehigh River in Pennsylvania is 9 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have
people coming from far and near. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The campgrounds here at Lehigh River are pretty good. The natural beauty of Carbon County and the cool fresh water
make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy.
Briefly about the general area: At Lehigh River during the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are in the 20's, and during the dark
hours in the winter at Lehigh River temperatures plunge to the 10's. Lehigh River is a quite wet place regularly with a great deal of rain; the month with most of the rain is August, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
