This stretch of Lehigh River is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The nature scenery of Pennsylvania and the water flowing gracefully down Lehigh River attract people from near and far. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Pennsylvania you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This is not the only paddling section in this
river system, there are others too. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Getting
your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The starting location is a short drive from Scranton—Wilkes-Barre, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
Briefly about the general area: Lehigh River is a wet spot that gets a large amount of rain; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is when it's the driest. For the duration of the warmest time of the year at Lehigh River highs are ordinarily in the 70's.
Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Lehigh River temperatures fall to the 10's.
