The beautiful scenery of Carbon County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The Rockport to Glen Onoko stretch of Lehigh River in Carbon County is 12.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Reading, as you can see on the road map further down. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people.
This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. No shortage of good hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are
probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Lehigh River a pretty wet spot; August is the month that gets the most rain; the driest of the months is February. Lehigh River is right next door to Mahoning Valley which is undeniably worth stopping at. During the summertime here at Lehigh River, high temperatures usually get into the 70's. Through the moonlight hours it's usually in the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 20's, and nighttime lows through the winter for Lehigh River tend to be in the 10's.
