Not recommended for beginners. Says John Ran this river for the first time today thinking it would be a gentle paddle. WARNING. It is NOT class II. There are many boulders and ledges. Swift current in high water. Hazardous thirty-foot waterfall right after a sharp bend to the left...with no warning. I banged my kayak up really bad taking the fall and nearly died. BE CAUTIOUS. Says This section of Little Conemaugh River in Pennsylvania is 10.2 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American     Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Johnstown, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Pennsylvania are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area   with plenty of rivers for that. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Little Conemaugh River throughout the summertime are in the 70's; the overnight is quite chillier of course, usually in the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Little Conemaugh River. Little Conemaugh River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and February is when it's the driest.
