  The McCrea Furnace to Route 66 stretch of Mahoning Creek in Pennsylvania is 12.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The beautiful scenery of Armstrong County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to
    paddle. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll
have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Mahoning Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the McCrea Furnace to Route 66 section is the only one. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
