The natural beauty of Pennsylvania and the cool fresh water have people coming here. This stretch of Mehoopany Creek in Wyoming County is 12.1 miles long and it is classified as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Scranton—Wilkes-Barre, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. This section has
enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Pennsylvania you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere.
If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Mehoopany Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Stony Brook to Mehoopany stretch is the only one. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
