The starting point is not too far from Johnstown, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of Paint Creek is 2.7 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Pennsylvania tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind     that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. This is the only paddling section along Paint Creek. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
