This section of Paint Creek in Somerset County is 2.7 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Johnstown, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Pennsylvania is often easier than     elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are some good hotels near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The SR 56 to Stonycreek River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Paint Creek. Briefly about the general area: Paint Creek is a good location of typical rainfall; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain while February is regularly the driest month. Through the months of summer here at Paint Creek, high temperatures   ordinarily get into the 70's. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's while Paint Creek night low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 10's.
