If you're coming from East Stroudsburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Monroe County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. The Tannersville to Stroudsburg section of Pocono Creek in Pennsylvania is 10.6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Pennsylvania is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're
visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Some people prefer whitewater
rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The Tannersville to Stroudsburg stretch is the only paddling stretch along Pocono Creek.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Pocono Creek a quite wet spot; the month with most of the rain is May while February is regularly the driest month. Through the summertime months at Pocono Creek temperatures are frequently in the 70's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 50's. During the winter this place gets highs in the 20's; through the dark hours in the winter at Pocono Creek temperatures descend to the 10's.
