The put-in is not too far from Somerset, as you can see on the road map further down. This is the only paddling section along Shade Creek. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming     from far and near. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Pennsylvania are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The Confluence of Dark and Clear Shade to Stony Creek section of Shade Creek is 9.6 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
