This section of Slate Run in Pennsylvania is 6.3 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Lock Haven, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Pennsylvania scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want
to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are no other stretches to paddle along Slate Run than the
Picnic area to Pine Creek stretch. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Pennsylvania is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: The Slide Hollow Trail is a glorious hiking trail in close proximity to Slate Run. At Slate Run through the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime
are in the 30's; night lows in the 10's for Slate Run. Slate Run gets a normal amount of yearly rainfall; during the month of June you get the most rain around here; February is when it's the driest. On a great day at Slate Run you can take a hike along the Fill Trestle Trail; Putt Hollow is also a magnificent site to discover.
