The starting location is a reasonable drive from Lock Haven, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Slate Run is 6.3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. There are no other sections to paddle along Slate Run than the Picnic area to Pine Creek section. For all you camping
people there are campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of Pennsylvania and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back
for more. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that.
Briefly about the general area: Hiking is a popular thing to do around Slate Run; Slide Hollow Trail is a fine local trail. Slate Run gets a common amount of rain; during the month of June you get the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest. All through the days of summer, highs usually are in the 80's at Slate Run. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. For the duration
of the winter the highs are regularly in the 30's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Slate Run temperatures dip to the 10's. Good hiking is available along the Fill Trestle Trail; Putt Hollow is around here, and is a magnificent location.
