Pennsylvania whitewater - Stony Fork Creek, Tioga County Tioga county, State Forest Picnic Area to Babb Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     4.2 miles   The put-in is not too far from Lock Haven, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Pennsylvania is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The wonderful Tioga County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough to enjoy a good     non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Stony Fork Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the State Forest Picnic Area to Babb Creek section is the only one. Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the Fork Hill Trail is always a magnificent adventure, and Ayers Hollow is a pleasant place to spend some time. All through the summer at Stony Fork Creek temperatures are commonly in the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 20's, and through the   dark hours in the winter at Stony Fork Creek temperatures descend to the 10's. From a precipitation point of view Stony Fork Creek is a relatively normal place; of all the months in a year June is the one with the most rain; the driest month of the year is January. This is such a fun river. Near Stony Fork Creek you come across the Stone Quarry Trail which is a glorious hiking trail; you must go to Brown Point when you're here.
