The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Pennsylvania are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Holtwood section     is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch of Susquehanna River in York County is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class III+ section by American Whitewater. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Briefly about the general area: From a rainfall point of view Susquehanna River is a rather typical site; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is February. Throughout the days of summer at Susquehanna River highs are commonly in the   80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's while Susquehanna River nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's.
