The beautiful scenery of Pennsylvania and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The put-in is not too far from Cumberland, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Pennsylvania are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding.
The Chaneysville to I-68 section of Town Creek in Pennsylvania is 15 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. This is one of a small number of paddling
stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area: Town Creek gets a normal amount of rain; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month. For the period of the summertime here at Town Creek, high temperatures regularly reach the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's usually
in the 50's. For the period of the winter the highs are mostly in the 30's; all through the dark hours in the winter at Town Creek temperatures drop to the 10's. Going for a hike along the Carnes Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region; a great location to check out is Black Valley. If the weather is good here at Town Creek, you can go for a hike along the Sawmill Trail.
