The Chaneysville to I-68 stretch of Town Creek in Bedford County is 15 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The average Pennsylvania whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up
quick. The beautiful scenery of Pennsylvania and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There's camping available near Town Creek. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. Since
you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: Town Creek gets a normal amount of yearly precipitation; during the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is January. Town Creek is right by the Sawmill Trail. The Carnes Trail offers hiking at its best; Black Valley is also a perfect place to discover. During
the warm months here at Town Creek, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. During the wintertime the highs are typically in the 30's; overnight lows at Town Creek throughout the wintertime ordinarily drop into the 10's.
