If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. This section of Tunkhannock Creek in Pennsylvania is 4.4 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from East Stroudsburg, as you can see on the road map further down. The Pennsylvania Route 115 to Pennsylvania Route 940 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Tunkhannock Creek. Getting
your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily
run it on an afternoon. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The nature scenery of Pennsylvania and the water flowing gracefully down Tunkhannock Creek have people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warm months at Tunkhannock Creek highs are usually in the 70's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to
Tunkhannock Creek. A short journey to Tobyhanna Falls is always worthwhile; the Boulder Field Trail is a nice hiking trail close by. A day on the slopes of Big Boulder is just what you need. Tunkhannock Creek gets much water; during August this area sees the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
