Pennsylvania whitewater - Wapwallopen Creek, Luzerne County
Luzerne
county,
SR 3013 to Route 239 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-IV(V+) 2.7 miles
The put-in is not too far from Pottsville, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Pennsylvania scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Wapwallopen Creek is 2.7 miles long and is a class I-IV(V+) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. You might have to settle for a
hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers.
The SR 3013 to Route 239 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.
