CLASS III-IV(V) 3.5 miles
Drive a another mile until you cross the rail tracks and make a quick left down a dirt rd that follows the rail track. Follow 200yrd until you reach the train observation deck and park here. Cross the tracks and look at the wounderful 3 shelf drop. If you would like to run it, head right down throught trail above fall. Start river right and work to left as you exit last shelf. watch the nice keeper and the bottem left at very high water. Says Brendon
This stretch of Wills Creek is 3.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class
III-IV(V) section of whitewater. The wonderful unknown County scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The average Pennsylvania whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here
do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is a short paddling stretch so no need to bring snacks. There are some good stretches to paddle
in this river system, the Fairhope to Hyndman stretch is one of them. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Cumberland, as you can see on the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: Wills Creek is right by the Old Mail Trail. A common amount of
precipitation falls here at Wills Creek; of all the months in a year June is the one with the most rain; the driest of the months is October. Through the warm days of summer highs here at Wills Creek get into the 70's while overnight lows are usually in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Wills Creek temperatures fall to the 10's.
Water between fairhope and hyndman is full of bolders and water depths drop a lot in summer months. i advice that rafting should be done in the spring.
