Fayette
county,
Confluence to Ohiopyle section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II 10.4 miles
The Yough is a fabulous year round class 3-4 run. The loop, the first 1.5 miles of the Lower has 7 rapids to keep anyone thoroughly entertained, then you just walk back to your car. Says Eric Martin
The scenic beauty of Fayette County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This section of Youghiogheny River is 10.4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. The average Pennsylvania whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're
visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Confluence to Ohiopyle stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so
go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Somerset, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more.
