The beautiful scenery of Oconee County and the water flowing gracefully down Brasstown Creek beats anything. The Brasstown Road to Yonah Lake section of Brasstown Creek is 3.8 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. The Brasstown Road to Yonah Lake section is the only paddling section along Brasstown Creek. Some people prefer whitewater
rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy.
The starting point is not too far from Toccoa, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime at Brasstown Creek temperatures are regularly in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. Throughout the winter the highs are
regularly in the 50's, and night lows in the 20's for Brasstown Creek. Brasstown Creek sees pretty high levels of rain; March is the month that gets the most rain, and October is the month with the least moisture.
