Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch of Chattooga River is 13 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. And of
course, there are campgrounds nearby. The natural beauty of South Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Chattooga River beats anything. The starting location is a short drive from Seneca, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are so many
stretches to paddle in this river system, the Earls Ford to Route 76 Bridge stretch is just one of many. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that.
Briefly about the general area: Chattooga River is a wet place that gets a great deal of rainfall; the month of March is the wettest
with most of the rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. At Chattooga River during the warm months highs are in the 80's. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 50's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 40's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Chattooga River fall into the 20's. Go for a hike on the Chattooga Trail.
