The beautiful scenery of Rabun GA / Oconee SC County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Chattooga River is 5.2 miles long and is a class II-IV+(V) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in South Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of
paddling spots. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Toccoa, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.

wet place; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain while October is regularly the driest month. A spree to Woodall Shoals is always fun. Summertime highs at Chattooga River regularly tend to be in the 80's, and all through summer nights temperatures
are in the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 50's, and overnight lows at Chattooga River through the wintertime usually fall into the 20's.
