The nature scenery of South Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The average South Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This section of Chattooga River in Rabun GA / Oconee SC County is 5.2 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV+(V) section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Toccoa it's not a long drive at all to the starting
location, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. There's camping
available near Chattooga River. The Route 76 Bridge to Tugaloo Lake Boat Ramp section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful.
