South Carolina whitewater - Double Branch, Anderson County Anderson county, US 178 to State Road 88 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III     0.5 miles   This stretch of Double Branch in South Carolina is 0.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. If you're coming from Anderson it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This section is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back     to put-in a few times. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The scenic beauty of South Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Double Branch make the trip here worthwhile. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Double Branch doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the US 178 to State Road 88 stretch is the only one. Briefly about the general area: Through the summer months, highs generally are in the 80's at Double Branch. Through the dark hours of summer   temperatures fall down into the 60's. Highs through the wintertime are typically in the 50's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Double Branch descend into the 20's. The high level of precipitation makes Double Branch a quite wet place; all through the month of March you get the most rain around here, and April on the other hand is the driest.
