The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The natural beauty of Pickens County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. South Carolina is 3.52 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV+ section. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the US 178 to Smith Creek above Lake Keowee section is one of them. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that.
