This stretch of Flat Shoal River in Oconee County is 4.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III(IV) section. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Highway 11 to Flat Shoals Bridge section is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. There aren’t any hotels     right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The natural beauty of Oconee County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far.
