South Carolina whitewater - Jimmies Creek, Spartanburg County Spartanburg county, I-26 to Tyger River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-III     6 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking in South Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The put-in location is a short drive from Spartanburg, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The I-26 to Tyger River stretch of Jimmies Creek is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This section     is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. There are no other sections to paddle along Jimmies Creek than the I-26 to Tyger River section. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The scenic beauty of South Carolina and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer at Jimmies Creek highs are ordinarily in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. Highs during the wintertime are commonly in the 50's, and overnight lows at Jimmies Creek all   through the winter generally sink into the 20's. Jimmies Creek is a reasonably wet place frequently with much rainfall; during March this area sees the most rain, and September meanwhile is the driest month.
