South Carolina whitewater - Pacolet, Spartanburg County Spartanburg county, Clifton II to Lawson's Fork section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     3.5 miles   If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The natural beauty of South Carolina and the water flowing gracefully down Pacolet make the trip here worthwhile. This section of Pacolet is 3.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. There are no other sections to paddle along Pacolet than the Clifton II to Lawson's Fork section. The starting location is a short drive from Spartanburg, please print out     a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Briefly about the general area: During the months of summer here at Pacolet, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's; night lows at Pacolet throughout the winter commonly   dip into the 20's. The high level of precipitation makes Pacolet a pretty wet place; through March this area sees the most rain, and April meanwhile is the driest month.
