This section of Saluda River in Lexington/ Richland County is 11 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV section of whitewater. There's camping available near Saluda River. There are some good hotels near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. The natural beauty of Lexington/ Richland County     and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. The Lake Murray Dam to Broad/Congaree confluence stretch is the only paddling stretch along Saluda River. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: The wonderful people of Columbia like to hang out nearby. During the months of summer at Saluda River highs are frequently in the 90's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. For the period of the wintertime the highs are frequently in the 50's with temperatures at Saluda River dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights.
