The beautiful scenery of South Carolina and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in South Carolina are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The campgrounds here at Saluda River are pretty good. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Brevard, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Saluda River
in Greenville County is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled
as well. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area: Saluda River is a wet spot that gets lots of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is March, and January
is the month with the least moisture. Cleveland Cliff is a perfect place to explore while in the area; Rainbow Falls is a splendid local attraction. You just can't picture the amount of outdoors amusing stuff the Blue Ridge Mountains has to offer. Lower Gap is next to Saluda
River and is a great place. Through the long summer days here at Saluda River, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's while Saluda River overnight low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 20's.
