South Carolina whitewater - Saluda River, Blue Ridge Mountains, Greenville County
Greenville
county,
Jones Gap Trail to Park section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-V 2 miles
This section of Saluda River is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. The average South Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. There are campgrounds quite near the river
where you can camp. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains
and you get great scenery. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The beautiful scenery of Greenville County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Brevard, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
Briefly about the general area: Yeah, come up here to the Blue Ridge Mountains for a delightful time. Rainbow Falls is a delightful local attraction. Throughout the months of summer
at Saluda River temperatures are generally in the 80's, and the nighttime is fairly chillier of course, ordinarily in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; through the dark hours in the winter at Saluda River temperatures plunge to the 20's. Don't leave Saluda
River without first checking out Cleveland Cliff, and nearby you locate Lower Gap which is a delightful place to explore. All the water falling down from the sky makes Saluda River a wet site; through the month of March you get the most rain around here, and January meanwhile is the driest month.
