The average South Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch of Saluda River is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. The wonderful South Carolina scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Saluda River make the trip here worthwhile. There's camping available near Saluda River. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The put-in location
is a short drive from Brevard, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains
is a great experience. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Saluda River is a wet site that gets a large amount of rain; March is when you get
the most rain here while January is regularly the driest month. So much cool stuff in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just astonishing. Cleveland Cliff is a fine spot to check out while in the area. Rainbow Falls is a perfect local attraction; a great place close by is Lower Gap.
Through the warm days of summer highs here at Saluda River get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 40's with temperatures at Saluda River dipping down into the 20's during winter nights.
