The scenic beauty of South Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This stretch of North Saluda River in Greenville County is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from     the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Briefly about the general area: A short visit to McElhenny Shoal is always worthwhile. North Saluda River is a relatively wet place typically with a lot of rain; March is the wettest month with most rain; January on the other hand is the driest. At North Saluda River through the days of summer highs are in the 80's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 60's. High temperatures   during the wintertime are normally in the 40's while North Saluda River nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's.
