The beautiful scenery of Greenville County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're coming from Greenville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in South Carolina are often easier than in other states,
so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system
that can be paddled as well. This stretch of North Saluda River in South Carolina is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes North Saluda River a wet place; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and the driest month is
January. For the duration of the summertime months highs here at North Saluda River get into the 80's, and the night is somewhat chillier of course, ordinarily in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to North Saluda River. McElhenny Shoal is a delightful spot to have a look at while you're at North Saluda River.
