The scenic beauty of Greenville County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of South Saluda River in Greenville County is 1.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV(V) section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill     up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The Blyth Shoals - Highway 11 to Talley Bridge section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at South Saluda River during the warmest time of the year are in the 80's. Summer overnight lows fall down to the 60's. During the winter highs are frequently in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at South Saluda River plunge into the 20's. South Saluda River sees pretty high levels of rain; the month   of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is when it's the driest. A short visit to Blythe Shoals is always worthwhile; Lower Gap is definitely a magnificent location to check out.
