South Carolina whitewater - Snow River, Oconee County Oconee county, Snow Creek Road to Lake Hartwell section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-III     2.5 miles   The nature scenery of Oconee County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. If you're coming from Seneca it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is the only paddling section along Snow River. This section     of Snow River is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Snow River usually tend to be in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 50's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Snow River plunge into the 20's.
