The starting point is not too far from Seneca, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Oconee County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. This is the only paddling section along Whetstone Creek. This section of Whetstone Creek in Oconee County is 1.5 miles long
and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(V) section. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river
in one stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in South Carolina are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Whetstone Creek is a rather wet place usually with a lot of precipitation; most of the rain falls through March; July is the month with the
least moisture. Going for a hike along the Chattooga Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region. Through the warmest time of the year here at Whetstone Creek, high temperatures usually reach the 80's; the nighttime is fairly chillier of course, frequently in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's, and night lows during the wintertime for Whetstone Creek tend to be in the 20's.
