The put-in is not too far from Seneca, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of Whetstone Creek in Oconee County is 1.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(V) section. The natural beauty of Oconee County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in South Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby
campground. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an
area with plenty of spots for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Whetstone Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Sandy Ford Access Road to Sandy Ford stretch is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year at Whetstone Creek comes with high temperatures in the 80's; through
summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Highs all through the winter are frequently in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 20's for Whetstone Creek. Whetstone Creek generally gets a lot of precipitation; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain, and July meanwhile is the driest month. On a glorious day at Whetstone Creek you can take a hike along the Chattooga Trail.
