South Carolina whitewater - Whitewater, Blue Ridge Mountains, Oconee County
Oconee
county,
Base of Upper Falls to Lake Jocassee section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-V+ 2.4 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking in South Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. If you're coming from Seneca it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. If you're
a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The beautiful scenery of Oconee County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared
to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. The Base of Upper Falls to Lake Jocassee section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section of Whitewater is 2.4 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V+ section by American Whitewater.
