The beautiful scenery of Oconee County and the water flowing gracefully down Whitewater have people coming here. This stretch of Whitewater is 2.4 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V+ section by American Whitewater. The average South Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all
set. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. There's camping available near Whitewater. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added
bonus. If you're coming from Seneca it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: A lot of precipitation falls at Whitewater; during the month of March you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the
months is April. And that's not all you can do here in the Blue Ridge Mountains. A tour to Whitewater wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Upper Falls. For the duration of the summertime months at Whitewater highs are generally in the 70's. Summer overnight lows fall
down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and nighttime lows at Whitewater all through the wintertime typically dip into the 20's. The Foothills Trail is a splendid hiking trail next to Whitewater, and a short visit to Lower Falls is always worthwhile.
