Whitewater rafting and kayaking in South Dakota is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. This stretch of Rapid Creek is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. The nature scenery of South Dakota and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions |

for lots of people. There's camping available near Rapid Creek. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are no other stretches to paddle along Rapid Creek than the Heisga to Dark Canyon
| stretch.
Briefly about the general area: Rapid Creek gets very little rain; the month with most of the rain is June, and January is when it's the driest. At Rapid Creek through the summer highs are in the 80's while nighttime lows are commonly in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's with temperatures at Rapid Creek dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
