The wonderful Pennington County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Rapid Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The average South Dakota whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Big Bend to Hiesga section is the only paddling section along Rapid Creek. There are |
campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Big Bend to Hiesga section of Rapid Creek in South Dakota is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class II(III) section by American Whitewater. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes.
