The Murphy Bridge to Topsy Bridge stretch of Buffalo River in Lewis and Wayne County is 25 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I(II) section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Tennessee tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. There's camping available near Buffalo River. The Murphy Bridge to Topsy Bridge stretch is the only paddling stretch along Buffalo River. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time
in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. The scenic beauty of Lewis and Wayne County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Buffalo River commonly tend to be in the 80's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 60's. Through the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Buffalo River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Buffalo River a wet place; December is when you get the most rain here, and October is when it's the driest.
