Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The Barker Camp Road to Bowater Parking lot stretch of Cain Creek is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is
a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. When you're paddling down a Cumberland Plateau Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. A good
workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. If you're coming from Chattanooga it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The wonderful Sequatchie/ Hamilton County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Cain Creek will make you feel great.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rainfall makes Cain Creek a rather wet site; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain
while October is frequently the driest month. You'll beyond doubt wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting stuff in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. If you're here at Cain Creek, checking out Big Bend is a must. At Cain Creek during the months of summer highs
are in the 80's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; through the dark hours in the wintertime at Cain Creek temperatures drop to the 20's. If you want to stop at some exciting stuff, stop at Little Bend, and why not pop by Redbird Point also while you're here.
