If you're coming from Knoxville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location. The wonderful Cherokee County scenery and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. There's camping available     near Citico Creek. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Indian Boundary to Below Pigs in Space stretch is one of them. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the days of summer at Citico Creek highs are regularly in the 80's,   and during the night it cools down to the 60's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Citico Creek dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights. Good hiking is available along the Indian Boundary Lake Trail; there's brilliant hiking along the Rocky Flats Trail. The high level of rain makes Citico Creek a rather wet place; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; October on the other hand is the driest. You truly should go for the Great Smoky Mountains.
