If you're coming from Knoxville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location. The Doublecamp to Little Tennessee River stretch of Citico Creek is 17 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in
other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Doublecamp to Little Tennessee River section is one of them. The scenic beauty of Monroe County and the playfulness of the
water attract people from near and far. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove.
Briefly about the general area: Take a hike on the Rocky Flats Trail; you can have a glorious hiking adventure along the
Mill Branch Trail. Lots of precipitation falls at Citico Creek; March is when you get the most rain here while October is typically the driest month. Be careful coming to the Great Smoky Mountains, you might not ever want to go back home again. At Citico Creek during the summer
highs are in the 80's while overnight lows are frequently in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Citico Creek.
