This section of Citico Creek in Monroe County is 17 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Monroe County and the water flowing gracefully down Citico Creek make the trip here worthwhile. The put-in location is a short drive from Knoxville. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because
these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. When you're paddling down a Great Smoky Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The Doublecamp to
Little Tennessee River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Citico Creek; the overnight is a tad colder of course, ordinarily in the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime
this place gets highs in the 40's; through the dark hours in the wintertime at Citico Creek temperatures drop to the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Citico Creek a wet spot; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain; October is when it's the driest.
Hiking is a popular thing to do around Citico Creek; Rocky Flats Trail is a magnificent local trail, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Mill Branch Trail. Man, is there a load of amusing stuff to do in the Great Smoky Mountains.
