CLASS II-III 2.5 miles
The starting location is a short drive from Harriman. The Jett to Lilly stretch of Clear Creek in Morgan County is 2.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Tennessee are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget
that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. The river winds through the Cumberland Plateau Mountains and you get great scenery. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
This section is quite short so no need to bring snacks. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: The Grunch Rapids is a pretty site to stop by while you're at Clear Creek, and a short trip to Lilly Rapids is always worthwhile. Clear Creek typically gets a lot of rainfall; March is when you get
the most rain here; October is the month with the least moisture. So much enjoyable stuff to do here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains, too magnificent to be true. High temperatures at Clear Creek during the warmest time of the year are in the 80's. When the night sets in
temperatures drop down into the 60's. Through the wintertime the highs are usually in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Clear Creek drop into the 20's.
