Tennessee whitewater - Clear Creek, Cumberland Plateau Mountains, Morgan County
Morgan
county,
Jett to Lilly section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 2.5 miles
If you're coming from Harriman it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. This stretch
of Clear Creek is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The beauty of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great plus for this
river. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Tennessee tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rainfall makes Clear Creek a pretty wet site; the wettest month of the year is typically March, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest
month is October. A short journey to The Grunch Rapids is always worthwhile, and Lilly Rapids is an inspiring place to visit while here. That right there is a load of amusing stuff already but it goes on, the Cumberland Plateau Mountains has it all. The warmest time of the
year at Clear Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's, and the night is somewhat cooler of course, frequently in the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and night lows all through the winter for Clear Creek tend to be in the 20's.
