You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. The starting point is not too far from Chattanooga. This is the only paddling stretch along Coal Bank. This is a very short section so better bring some good walking shoes. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: Wolfpen Point is not far from Coal Bank at all. Coal Bank frequently gets much rain; most of the rain falls through March while June is ordinarily the driest month. Throughout the summer months, highs usually are in the 80's at Coal Bank, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's.
