This stretch of Coker Creek in Polk County is 6 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV(V) section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. There are no other stretches to paddle along Coker Creek than the Highway 68 to Hiwassee River stretch. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find
lots of paddling rivers. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The starting point is not too far from Athens, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

entertaining things. Coker Creek sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is usually March, that's the one that rains the most, and October is when it's the driest. Through the summer at Coker Creek temperatures are mostly in the 80's, and the nighttime
is rather cooler of course, commonly in the 60's. During the winter highs are in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Coker Creek temperatures descend to the 20's. While you're here at Coker Creek you can take a hike along the Unicoi Mountain Trail; if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Smith Mountain Trail.
