The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The Barker Camp Road to Bowater Parking Lot stretch of Cooper Creek in Tennessee is 5 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Chattanooga, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby
campground. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The beautiful scenery of Sequatchie/ Hamilton County
and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is wonderful. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Cooper Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Barker Camp Road to Bowater Parking Lot section is the only one.
