Tennessee whitewater - Daddy's Creek, Cumberland Plateau Mountains, Cumberland County

Cumberland county, Big Lick to Sutton Dam section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     17.5 miles

I like your article. I'm from Big Lick (I'm proud to say) and it is very beautiful out here. That stretch of creek, in this article, also offers some really good fishing. I have a picture on my website of Sutton Dam at www.biglickclick.com It's in the photo gallery. I also have a picture of the Sequatchie River at the Head of the Valley in Big Lick. I checked out your map it's a little off Big Lick Rd isn't there anymore. Also the woods behind my house touches the red dot and daddy's creek :-) Also, if you like the big rapids go the other way towards
the Devil's Breakfast Table in Catoosa. Talk about beautiful country (''Gods country'') and exhilirating white water. All part of Daddy's Creek!! If you use my picture please give credit to the BigLickClick.com. Thanks!! Says Johnnie Hassler

The Big Lick to Sutton Dam section
of Daddy's Creek in Cumberland County is 17.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The scenic beauty of Cumberland County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Tennessee is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. No matter
if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Big Lick to Sutton Dam section is one of them. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Crossville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The beautiful Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is an added bonus. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag.

Briefly about the general area:
Parham Gap is a great spot to have a look at close by, and Head of Sequatchie is a nice local attraction. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. Throughout the long summer days here at Daddy's Creek, high temperatures commonly reach the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Daddy's Creek.
All the water falling down from the sky makes Daddy's Creek a wet spot; the month of March is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is October.
