Tennessee whitewater - Deep Creek, Cumberland Plateau Mountains, Hamilton County
Hamilton
county,
Mowbray to Soddy section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V 1.75 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for
that. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are no other sections to paddle along Deep Creek than the Mowbray to Soddy section. The
starting location is a reasonable drive from Chattanooga, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater paddling here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is a great experience. This section of Deep Creek is 1.75 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: Deep Creek commonly gets a good deal of precipitation; March is when you get the most rain here, and October is the month with the least moisture. A short trip to Iris Lovelady Spring is always worthwhile,
and you are in the vicinity of Clemmons Point since you're here. All through the long summer days at Deep Creek temperatures are frequently in the 80's while night lows are regularly in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and night lows at
Deep Creek through the winter mostly plunge into the 20's. And that's not all the things to do here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains. A tour to Deep Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Hineman Spring.
