This section of Doe River is 4.6 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Johnson City, as you can see on the road map further down. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There's
camping available near Doe River. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming
back for more. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
Briefly about the general area: A tremendous spot close to Doe River is Johnson Hollow, and on a splendid day you can take a hike along the Laurel Fork Trail.
