Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Johnson City, as you can see on the road map further down. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There's     camping available near Doe River. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The natural beauty of Tennessee and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Briefly about the general area: A tremendous spot close to Doe River is Johnson Hollow, and on a splendid day you can take a hike along the Laurel Fork Trail. An average amount of rain falls at Doe River; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is October.   For the period of the summer months here at Doe River, high temperatures commonly reach the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. Through the wintertime the highs are generally in the 40's with temperatures at Doe River dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights.
