The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The starting point is not too far from Johnson City, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Tennessee and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Lodging is available near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors
are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Blevins Bridge on Bear Cage Road to Highway 19E bridge stretch of Doe River in Carter County is 5.7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. On this section you do get some distance, you
can easily run it on an afternoon. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Dearden Fill Hollow is a perfect place to have a look at right next door to Doe River; Flagpole Point is an interesting thing to catch a glimpse of while you're here. Going for a hike on the Pond Mountain Trail
is always a splendid adventure, and Pardee Point is an attention-grabbing place to stop at while at Doe River. The amount of rainfall that falls at Doe River is close to the national average; during the month of July you get the most rain around here, and October on the other
hand is the driest. The warmest time of the year at Doe River comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and the overnight is a bit cooler of course, mostly in the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Doe River
temperatures sink to the 20's. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. There is a great hiking trail near Doe River called the Stone Mountain Trail.
