The Hampton to Elizabethton stretch of Doe River is 8.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Hampton to Elizabethton section is just one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget     that rivers here are less forgiving. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. There are some good hotels near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The nature scenery of Tennessee and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime at Doe River highs are mostly in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 60's. During the winter highs are in the 40's, and overnight lows through the winter for Doe River tend to be in the 20's. There are splendid places   to explore along the Stone Mountain Trail. From a precipitation point of view Doe River is a quite common place; July is when you get the most rain here, and October is when it's the driest. McCathern Spring is an inspiring site to explore while here, and a pleasant location to take a look at close by is Long Hollow.
