  The starting point is not too far from Johnson City, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The wonderful Tennessee scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. On this section you do get some distance,
    it's perfect for a one day trip. The Hampton to Elizabethton stretch of Doe River is 8.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too.

Briefly about the general area:
Doe River is near Cherokee National Forest which is a pretty site. There's good hiking along the Old Dug Trail,
 
and you'll in all probability meet some people from Butler here. A river like this is too good to miss. A good spot to pop by near Doe River is Long Hollow; you beyond doubt ought to have a look at Sycamore Shoals State Park if you're here. Good hiking is available along the Stone Mountain Trail; a visit to McCathern Spring will fill your soul with good feelings. High temperatures at Doe River during the warm months are in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's typically in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while Doe River nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's.
