CLASS III-IV 5.5 miles
The scenic beauty of Cumberland/Bledsoe/Rhea County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Tennessee are harder than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The river winds through the Cumberland Plateau Mountains and you get great scenery.
The put-in is not too far from Crossville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,
around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This stretch of Dunlap Creek is 5.5 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The Jolley Road to Piney River section is the only paddling section along Dunlap Creek. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
